County-wide gift card program round two will launch Nov 21st

Oceana County, Michigan
– Discover Oceana, a coalition of area chambers and economic organizations, is thrilled to announce round two of the Gift Card Give Back Program along with the premiere of a shop local video and an online Oceana business directory, all at no charge to businesses, in an effort to promote shopping local.

Gift Card Give Back - how it works:
Buy a $25 gift card from your favorite local merchant starting November 21st at 9:00 AM at and receive a free $10 bonus (small service fee applies). Limit 5 cards/business. That means spend $25, get $35. Better yet... buy 5 cards, get $50 free! After you make your gift card purchase, an electronic card will be immediately available to download and emailed to you or to a person you'd like to gift it to. The Gift Card Program is administered by the Hart Economic & Redevelopment Team with support from area chambers.

Why we're doing it:
When you purchase a gift card through our program, your purchase (plus the $10 bonus incentive) goes right to the local businesses you’re supporting. This round is limited to 900 gift cards and each customer is allowed to purchase up to five cards. This is to ensure that many others are able to support their favorite Oceana businesses. Our small businesses are vital to our communities and with your help, we will generate over $31,500.

The Gift Card Give Back program is made possible through the generosity of an unsolicited, anonymous $10,000 donation from a local resident along with a matching joint gift from the Community Foundation for Oceana County and Consumers Energy. Most recently, DTE has joined the list of donors to support a second round. Special thanks to United Way of the Lakeshore - Oceana, Shelby State Bank, West Shore Bank, Shelby Chamber of Commerce, Pixel Grafix Studio and the Oceana Clipper for their promotional support.

Oceana County businesses that would like to be listed on and/or participate in the gift card program should contact their local business organization (contact info available at

Shop Local Video
The Discover Oceana team discussed the idea of a shop local video earlier this year, started working on a script and business sign-up form. When Peterson Farms, who fully supports the shop local initiative, heard about this effort, they generously offered to film and produce the entire video at no cost. Peterson’s Communication Manager, Grant Boring, traveled around the county filming and producing a video showcasing over 35 local businesses. This heartwarming production reminds us to “check here first”. It is full of familiar faces, the faces we see when we shop local.

You will find the video, gift cards, business directory, and eventually local pride merchandise at the website. The directory provides links to Oceana County businesses. If you're interested in supporting the continued efforts of the Discover Oceana team to connect consumers with local businesses, please contact Nichole Steel at or call 231-301-8449.
